Artist Statement

My artwork uses themes related to climate change, capitalism, and mass animal extinction to address social systems that result in the destruction of the natural world. My paintings and prints are meant to draw attention to the relationship between people and climate change. I draw from my interest in bone structure, fossils and topographic patterns to create works that highlight animals currently in danger of becoming extinct.

Bone structures are used as stable visual elements to balance organic mark making that replicates patterns found in nature. I often use various mediums to create textured surfaces as well as newspaper clippings that reference current issues concerning climate change and extinction. I am working towards creating images that evoke conversations about interdependence, community, and cultivating harmonious relationships with our environment.
